As an aside during a discussion about the introduction of new technology at Social Security in the 1980s I raised the point that some people would object to having bar codes put on their fortnightly dole forms, and a boss said to me that the government would wait until such people died out.
You're not paranoid - and the above is the best proof for it.
You know, to put it very bluntly and the analogy may be quite distasteful, but still: When does the so-called paranoia cease to be paranoia and becomes reality? When it is too late and one already gazes in the flaming ovens of Auschwitz?
I prefer YOUR so-called PARANOIA over the FUZZY, WARM "reality" of "normal" people any time.

Well, you think that's paranoia, what about the National ID system that will be implemented in May 2008? We have less than one month to protest! http://epic.org/privacy/id-cards/
I want to know if the Government has performed a socioeconomic assessment of this action? Maybe we can stop them from implementing this as the Government is in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). NEPA requires the Government to conduct an environmental assessment for each Federal action that has the chance to impact the environment. Part of the NEPA assessment includes a socioeconomic analysis. And of course if the Government requires use of a plastic card with a "chip" embedded inside (e.g., "smart card"), there may be impacts to the environment in manufacturing these cards.
I watched one person stop the Department of Energy (DOE) from building a mixed waste processing facility because the DOE started the program without conducting a NEPA analysis. And the facility would actually have reduced the waste stored at the site!!!
